CENIC 2008

As always, surrounded by geeks.
I often said "I represent the softer side of CENIC".
Very inspirational presentations:
Medical stuff:
From the Exploratorium:
CAHSEE:
More to come.

CCBE, CCESA, PTA

This conference includes the County School Boards, Superintendents, and PTA leaders. It's an eclectic group - and we all care about the kids.
The CCBE leg committee met on Thursday afternoon and we whipped through over 30 new bills - evaluating whether we wanted to support the bill or not. Kind of a contentious group.
On Friday there were breakout presentations, and on Friday night Carol Channing (87 years old!) was the guest of honor. She and her husband are great - they finish each other's sentences and all! They give a lot of money to the Arts in schools and donate to the CSU for art scholarships. I was introduced as working for Charlie Reed (CSU president) so she now thinks I'm his secretary.

ePortfolio "Day of Dialogue"

The Day of Dialogue was great.
It was in San Carlos at the ---------- campus. (A very nice small campus located off of Great America Parkway.)
There were probably 30 people from a variety of backgrounds - some elementary school teachers to CSU representatives.
The guest speaker, Steve --------, from Ohio, gave a good overview of what they are doing in Ohio. Most notably there was a dictum from above (legistators) that said "play nice" so they (higher ed institutions) have implemented competencies that students can transfer from campus to campus. Imagine that!
Then there was a panel that shared each of their experiences. Jean ---- from ----, Ruth Cox from SFSU, and John Ittleson from the k20 consortium. After lunch there were groups that split off - intro, technology, and not sure what the other was - and then shared findings.
Overall it was a really good exchange.
